Barry Island’s Rainbow Run helps out Ty Hafan

Nearly 1,200 runners turned Barry Island into a riot of colour on Saturday (May 13) with the return of Ty Hafan’s Rainbow Run.

A?Ty Hafan spokesperson said:?“After last year’s fantastic first-ever visit to the beach, organisers were keen to make the event even bigger and better, raising thousands of pounds to help life-limited children, young people and their families across Wales.

“With funds already rolling in from the children’s hospice charity’s army of paint-splattered fundraisers, the event is looking likely to smash its £60,000 target.

“Nation Radio broadcast live from the beach, with performances from groups Brawd and Misfit to motivate the runners and entertain the crowds.”

The seven paint stations, three of which were sponsored by One Stop, Convey Law and GM Financial, ensured runners were coated with a rainbow of bright coloured paint as they triumphantly crossed the finish line.

Ty Hafan mum Micaela Wilson, whose seven-year-old son Cai is supported by the charity, was one of this year’s runners.

She said: “Ty Hafan has been a lifeline for us and we feel extremely privileged to have such a special place on our doorstep. Never did I imagine I’d use this magical place but I am glad I have come across it in my journey in life.

“I have made lots of friends going there and met many special, inspirational people.

“It has taught me a lot and never to take life for granted. Everyone makes us feel welcome and nothing is ever too much for anyone.”

Thanking all those who took part in the event, she added: “Without people fundraising, Ty Hafan wouldn’t be able to run and we wouldn’t have this fantastic facility. For parents of children like mine, life would be more difficult than it already is.”

Lauren Sadler of Ty Hafan, said: “Thank you to all those who supported this year’s Barry Rainbow Run.”

Ty Hafan’s next Rainbow Run will take place in Parc Bryn Bach, Tredegar on Saturday, July 8 and you can register at
