Madison Louise Dalley, a Year 8 pupil at Cowbridge Comprehensive School, featured in The GEM last October for winning the Horse of the Year show on her 138cm Show Pony Archwood Romeo Gigle.
Madison will be back at the NEC in October competing on a different pony, the eye-catching Welsh section A stallion Ceulan Calon Lan (or Larny).
Larny, the nine-year-old stallion was bred by Dr Wynne Davies and family at the Ceulan Stud in Miskin, which is renowned around the world for breeding Welsh section A mountain ponies.
He was purchased as a foal by the Donati family of Groesfaen and became the main stallion at their Milwas stud.
Larny has produced 20-plus foals and he often crosses paths with his offspring at the various shows around the country and on a few occasions competing against them in the same class.
The Donati family showed Larny in-hand from a youngster who has far too many wins to mention, but his main accolade was taking in-hand Supreme of Show at the Royal Welsh in 2015.
In 2016, the Donati family approached Madison’s parents to ask if Madison would like to compete in the ridden classes on Larny and needless to say they jumped at the opportunity.
They got off to a flying start in 2017, taking Supreme of Show at the Glamorgan Welsh Pony & Cob show in April and in June qualified for Horse of the Year show by winning their class and taking reserve champion at Northleach Welsh Pony & Cob show held at Cirencester Park.
Madison and Larny’s next major event is The Royal Welsh.
