Tondu RFC held their presentation evening last Friday after a very successful season for the club that has seen this vibrant village club ending up runaway champions of Division 2 Central West and reach the final of the Silver Ball.

The evening saw Aled Jones, son of former Tondu stalwart David Jones, named both player’s player of the year and player of the year, a well-deserved accolade for a very versatile young man who played in a number of positions in the back division throughout last season.

The other winners on the night are listed below.

There was recognition given to chairman Graham Thomas and wife Joanne for their work and comittment to the club and to the entire coaching and management team for their comittment throughout the season.

The award for the most improved player went to Rhys Samuel. For the second team Curtis Daniel was named most improved player and the player’s player of the year went to Calum Jones with the player of the year award going to Rhys Jones.

Other recognition went to secretary David Davies and Josh Tatchell for their comittment to the club.

Rob Dyke said: “Just back home from our presentation night.

Without doubt in my mind Tondu RFC is the best club within Wales.

“Over the past 25 years I have been involved with the club I have seen the highs and lows of our great club. All is well documented and we all know the struggles that all have endured.

“But over the last 18 months like a phoenix we have raised from the ashes, and have strived forward. This is based on a very sound minis, junior and youth development structure that has born fruit to senior level. But that being said the structure is nothing without the support of the best committee chairman and treasurer.

“This, coupled with an amazing senior arm of our great club, makes the off-field side amazing. But rugby is played on the field and our players are without doubt the personification of dedicated athletes.

“They take all that is thrown at them and respond tenfold. I want to put on record I am fortunate to be the first team manager of Tondu RFC.”

Tondu RFC will be holding the ‘Evz sevens’ event at Coleg Cymunedol-Y-Dderwen on August 5.

Gates open at 9.30am and entry is £2 (under-16s go free) with fun attractions for all the family - follow the event on Twitter @EVZ7S.
